Organic panela sugar for sale

Panela sugar is an unrefined whole cane sugar. It is a solid form of sucrose obtained by boiling and evaporating sugarcane juice. In Mexico, they call this cane sugar “piloncillo” because of the traditional form in which this smoky, caramelized and earthy sugar is produced. The juice is made from ground sugar cane, collected, boiled and poured into molds, where it hardens into blocks.

Uses Panela sugar

Panela sugar is used in food canning and in making confectionery, soft drinks, baked goods, and vinegar, beer and wine.

Production

The towns of Viletta and Curdinamarca are famous for sugar cane production. Special festivals are held in January to honor the hard work and craftsmanship of the people of the region in making panela. It creates a sense of national unity and sharing of common bond. Each year a national queen is crowned, based on beauty, popularity and knowledge of panela production and marketing.

Panela healthier than refined sugar

Panela manufacturers claim it is healthier than refined sugar you buy in the supermarket. That’s because Panela sugar has immunological benefits, a lower glycemic index and higher micronutrient content. It is and always will be sugar, with just a small amount more vitamins and minerals.
